Closed-toe shoes for summer – une femme d’un certain âge

Closed-toe shoes for summer – une femme d’un certain âge

While for many of us, “summer” may be synonymous with “sandals,” there are times when closed-toe shoes may be more appropriate or practical. Keeping your feet covered and comfortable in summer heat can be a challenge. So I’ve rounded up some stylish closed-toe shoe styles that deliver coverage and comfort for happy feet!

When choosing closed-toe-shoes for warm seasons, look for designs and materials that will allow for more air flow. Open weave, cutouts, and perforated leathers or other materials add breathability. Or look for styles that have less overall foot coverage, like d’Orsay styles or slingbacks. Here are a few of my picks for the season…

Closed-toe shoes for summer

Clergerie Ozan raffia platform sneakers

Clergerie raffia sneakers

French brand Clergerie makes beautiful raffia footwear that’s both comfortable and durable. I’ve worn these sneakers for a full 10 hours on my feet in complete comfort. They run true-to-size.

Budget-friendly option: these have a similar look and a good rating for comfort.

Ilse Jacobsen slip-on

These slip-ons always get rave reviews for comfort. This style is available in multiple colors, many of which are currently on sale. (They do tend to stretch out a bit with wear, so go with a size that feels snug at first.)

I’ve come close to buying these on a couple of occasions, and may yet succumb. These are very comfortable, and a fun casual shoe. Also available in black and silver. They run true-to-size.

Vince “Venice” slingback Mary Jane

These shoes are SO comfortable thanks to a nicely padded footbed, and can dress up or down. (Perfect for summer events!) The strap across the instep keeps them snug and stable on your feet. Available in silver too, and several other colors. They run 1/2 size large.

Birdies woven flats

These are from Birdies, so you know they have lots of lovely padding in the insole! These also come in a bright orange. They run true-to-size, but a little bit narrow, so if you have a wider foot you may want to size up.

Pikolinos laser-cut flats

This brand is made in Spain and known for walkable comfort. These champagne gold loafer-style flats have interesting cut-out detailing on the vamp, and leather insole padding and lining for comfort.

I haven’t tried this particular pair, but other styles from this brand tend to run true-to-size.

Mesh flats have been a big trend for the last few seasons. I know they are polarizing (people tend to either love or hate them) but they do add a bit of fun to casual summer outfits. This style is available in several colors, and runs true-to-size.

Pikolinos Jerez flats

If your summer style leans more casual/artsy, you might like these cutout flats. Available in 4 colors, these get rave reviews for comfort, and as a good option for travel.

Espadrilles are a summer perennial. The open weave and crystal embellishment add a fun and playful vibe to these. 4 colors, and well-reviewed. Per reviews, they run true-to-size.

Tory Burch striped espadrilles

I normally don’t go for logo’d items, but these are so cute (and the logo feels like an intrinsic part of the design.) Per reviews they run true-to-size and are comfortable.

Madewell fisherman flats

Though technically a sandal, these do provide a good bit of toe coverage. I owned a similar pair from a past season, and found them comfortable and stylish. Run true-to-size.
