All You Need to Know About the 2024 Met Gala
There is simply no other date on the fashion calendar that generates as much hype as the Met Gala, and the countdown to this year’s event is officially… ON! Set to take place tonight (Monday, May 6) at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, this year’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” exhibit can essentially be better explained as “the celebration of clothing and fashion so fragile that it can’t ever be worn again” according to Vogue and the excitement is at fever pitch.
The dress code for tonight’s buzz-worthy event is “The Garden of Time”, inspired by a short story from 1962 of the same title written by J.G. Ballard. Ultimately, the theme leaves plenty of room for interpretation, as attendees will celebrate nature while nodding to the exhibition itself, which spotlights historical fashion. You can expect a vast amount of archival magic – and that’s a guarantee.
Co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala include Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez and Zendaya who join Vogue’s very own Anna Wintour who are each set to welcome guests on the grand granite steps, for fashion’s biggest and most celebratory night of the year.
Inside Vogue‘s May 2024 issue (with a Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda-clad Zendaya on the cover), the master photographer that is Steven Meisel profiled Elizabeth Debicki for an exceptional story shining a spotlight upon the pieces set to be featured throughout the exhibit. For example, a 2017 recreation of the iconic Junon dress from Christian Dior’s Fall 2949 Haute Couture collection and the Upside-Down Rose hat from Philip Treacy’s Spring 2000 Haute Couture collection.
