3 easy colored jeans outfit ideas for women over 50

If you’ve been wanting to try colored jeans but aren’t sure how to style them, today I’m sharing 3 easy outfit ideas.

I don’t think getting dressed should be intimidating, which is why I lean toward simple styles and outfit formulas. But simple doesn’t have to be bland and generic either, so I’m always looking for ways to add some variety, interest, and personality without having to fiddle and fuss with my clothes.

I love my medium blue denim jeans, in no small part because I find them so easy to style. But sometimes we need to switch things up, and colored denim* is one way to add variety without veering too far from standard jeans. (*I count anything other than blue denim as “colored.” That includes other neutrals: white, ecru, grey, tan, brown, and black.)

Whenever I bring a new piece home, the first thing I do is try it with other pieces already in my wardrobe. If it “plays well with others,” it gets to stay. These brown garment-dyed wide leg jeans passed that test handily. I was easily able to create several combinations, and these are my 3 favorites.

I’m wearing size 28 Petite in the jeans. I think they run true-to-size, but will stretch out just a little with wear. So if you want a slimmer fit, I’d suggest trying a size down.

Sporty casual

A classic Breton-stripe sweater or top (cream or white + navy) will work with just about any color on the bottom half.

Column of color

Your “column” pieces don’t have to match exactly to get the effect.

This colored jeans outfit is comfortable enough for running errands, but polished enough to meet a friend for lunch at the local bistro. The leopard belt and metallic shoes add nice visual “pops” to the look.

Get shirty

This one’s for those of you who live in warmer climates. (Or to keep in mind for warmer days ahead…)

More striped shirts

The jeans I’m wearing come in a few other colors. (The “Chalked Fig” color is a great one for you Summers.) We can expect to see more colored jeans styles as the spring collections start to roll in. Here are a few ideas to get you started…
